Our Partnerships
How Upgrader.ie is funded, how commercial partnerships work, and how they are kept separate from our editorial content.
Why Upgrader.ie works with partners
Upgrader.ie is free for readers to use. Researching, writing and maintaining the site takes ongoing time and cost, and part of that is funded through the relationships described on this page. We set them out here so you can see clearly how the site makes money and judge our content accordingly.
Below we explain our current relationship with CompareInsuranceIreland.ie, a separate related website with the same operator, how our partnership with Selectra works, and how each is kept separate from our editorial content.
How the website is funded
Upgrader.ie does not charge readers to use the site and does not carry advertising in the conventional sense. Instead, Upgrader.ie may receive payments through commercial referral arrangements, enquiry forms and certain affiliate links. These include referrals to service providers, links to insurance comparison services and selected product recommendations. Where relevant, we explain the commercial relationship to visitors. Any payment or other commercial benefit goes to Paul Hudson, trading as Magenta Online Marketing, who operates Upgrader.ie.
Electricity, Gas, Broadband and Waste: Selectra
Our Electricity, Gas, Broadband and Waste pages are information guides that also let you request a callback about these household services. If you use the callback form, the details you submit are shared with Selectra, an external commercial partner, so it can contact you about your enquiry. Upgrader.ie may receive a referral payment if an enquiry results in an eligible completed service arrangement. Requesting a callback does not mean every provider, tariff or option available in Ireland has been compared, and you remain free to research providers and contact them directly, or to use any comparison service you choose.
Future commercial partnerships
Upgrader.ie may in future work with other external commercial partners for our Household Services. Before any such route goes live, we will update this page to explain how the arrangement works, and the relevant page will tell you clearly who will handle your enquiry before you submit anything.
Home Insurance: CompareInsuranceIreland.ie
Upgrader.ie provides general information about home insurance. It does not provide insurance advice, insurance quotes, recommend a particular insurer or policy, arrange cover or handle claims. You can read more on our Home Insurance page.
When you select a Home Insurance link on that page, you leave Upgrader.ie and continue on CompareInsuranceIreland.ie. CompareInsuranceIreland.ie is a separate website with the same operator as Upgrader.ie, so it is a related service rather than an external partner. CompareInsuranceIreland.ie’s own terms and policies apply when you use that website. The operator may benefit commercially if you use this service.
Editorial separation
As a matter of editorial policy, an independent external commercial partner cannot approve, edit or dictate the guidance published on Upgrader.ie, and being a partner does not entitle a company to more favourable coverage than a company that is not. CompareInsuranceIreland.ie is not an external partner in that sense, since it shares the same operator as Upgrader.ie, but the same separation applies in practice: what Upgrader.ie publishes about home insurance is an editorial decision, kept separate from how CompareInsuranceIreland.ie itself operates or is worded. See our Editorial Standards for more on how our content is researched and written.
What is and is not compared
Neither Upgrader.ie nor CompareInsuranceIreland.ie compares every provider, tariff, plan or policy available in Ireland. Upgrader.ie does not itself compare electricity, broadband or waste providers. CompareInsuranceIreland.ie operates its own home insurance comparison service on its own terms. You are always free to research and contact providers or insurers directly, independently of any route described on Upgrader.ie.
Installer relationships
Upgrader.ie does not currently have commercial partnerships with installers listed on our Find Installers pages for solar PV, heat pumps, insulation or windows and doors. Companies appear there because they are registered with SEAI for the relevant measure, not because they have paid to be listed, and a listing is not an endorsement, vetting or recommendation by Upgrader.ie.
